IT Prepares for Hurricane Season

technology 1's and 0'sSean Curry is chief technology officer for StratITsphere, a data center and IT consulting firm headquartered in Katy. This time of year, Curry gets a lot of requests for help from companies looking to fine tune their disaster recovery plans. And, he says, one thing tends to stand out.

“Generally, people aren’t as prepared as they think they are.”

Most businesses do have processes to test how quickly they can get up and running after a storm.

“What happens a lot of the time is those tests fall short, because they end up being table-top exercises and not real exercises involving the equipment or the solutions or the applications.”

The start of the hurricane season brings what Curry describes as a kneejerk reaction, as companies rush to secure their critical systems before it’s too late.
