Ingleside Redevelopment

The port commissioners will vote Monday on a contract transferring control of roughly 800 acres of the former naval base to Canyon Supply and Logistics.

Tom Moore, a consultant to the Port of Corpus Christi, says that offshore oil production in the Gulf of Mexico is moving steadily westward toward the coast of Texas. He says that Ingleside is already well-designed to service that production.

“When a vessel is 900 feet long, that needs a long concrete pier and access to that pier in deep water, with easy access to the Gulf. That writes the script for exactly what Naval Station Ingleside is currently today.”

If approved, the new facility would be boon to the local economy.

“Canyon projects about 2500 jobs within a few years, and these are fairly well-paying jobs.”

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times estimates the region lost more than 4100 jobs when Naval Station Ingleside closed barely a year ago, after a mere 22 years in operation.
