grabbing moneyThe Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts estimates more than $355 million in abandoned or lost money is due residents in the 10 counties of the Houston metro area.

Sources range from dormant bank accounts to forgotten apartment and utility deposits.

Ryan Baird is with the Comptroller’s office.

“Overall, we have $2.2 billion worth of unclaimed property waiting for people to claim, and it’s spread out over the entire state. We estimate that about one in four Texans has unclaimed property, and the average claim is about $1000 of this unclaimed property. And recently, we had a search event with Comerica in Dallas and found over $253,000 in one day doing the same type of search event.”

Today’s event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 Comerica’s Hobby Airport Banking Center.
