The Texas on the Brink report is a legislative study of key issues in the state. It shows where Texas ranks in comparison to other states. A caucus of House Democrats has compiled the report every session since 2003.
Houston Representative Garnet Coleman chairs the group. In a webcast press conference, Coleman says the report
shows Texas has the highest percentage of uninsured people in the nation and the second highest percentage of people
who don't have enough food.
"Ultimately everybody comes here to have a better Texas. We may disagree about how to get there, but we need to know what a better Texas means and I think this sets the foundation for what a better Texas means based on how we rank and compare to other states in our great country."
Coleman says the state is stagnant, showing little change in the rankings since the first report was issued eight years ago. A broad range of issues are included from women's health to transportation, taxation and the environment.
