"It's actually an extension of our current facility that's out off of Brittmoore Road. Timetable is to be finished here sometime in mid-October. That's our push date right now. We process right now there what we would call dual-stream material right now, and the single-stream will double our capacity there. So we're receiving equipment and plan to have that erected and operable sometime in October."
Single-stream recycling enables residents to mix plastic, glass and paper in one recycling bin.
"So rather than have to self-sort at the curb where we're putting paper in one and plastic in another and cardboard in another. Everybody gets a 90 gallon and puts all the recyclables in one container. And then our machinery that's at our site sorts that optically and with the assistance of sorters on the line, so really what it makes it is much more convenient for the residents of the city to recycle. And typically, we'll see improvements for recycling rates anywhere from 50 up to 300 percent."
Houston-based Greenstar has locations in eight states and single-stream recycling facilities in San Antonio and Dallas.
