Hutchison Weighs-In On Obama Space Policy

The President’s plan would expand international cooperation in space science and exploration. It would also increase the nation’s reliance on the private sector. Senator Hutchison says the administration's proposals would be devastating to domestic human space flight.

"It impacts Texas. It impacts all of the states that have NASA operations, but more importantly Americans preeminence in space and we have gained so much from the exploration that we’ve had in space both in technology and national defense satellite."

Hutchison has also criticized President Obama’s plan to scrap the Constellation program — implemented under President George Bush to replace the retiring shuttle program. Critics say scrapping the program will jeopardize jobs and safety. Obama Administration officials argue it would be a cost-effective way to focus on new advanced technology.
