Cinco Ranch, a master-planned community in Katy that's been around for nearly 20 years, was ranked number one for new homes sales nationwide by independent real estate advisory firm RCLCO. Jennifer Taylor is with Newland Communities, Cinco Ranch's developer.
"We sold a total of 887 new homes in 2009, which was up 14-percent from our home sales totals in 2008."
The Woodlands finished second on the sales list. Telfair in Sugar Land was 4th in 2009 with 450 new home sales and
Sienna Plantation in Missouri City 10th. Taylor says there's a reason Houston-area master-planned communities do
"Master-planned communities historically in down times take more market share because people look for more of a master-planned concept. With the lack of zoning in Houston that really becomes forefront in people's minds, especially those relocating into Houston."
The survey shows most master-planned communities nationwide saw drops in sales numbers in 2009. Only Telfair and Cinco Ranch saw increases here in Houston.
