One Step Away From Committing Murder

The initiative targets the area's most dangerous felons wanted for aggravated assault and who've managed to stay a step ahead of being arrested. Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia says for all intents and purposes, these
particular crimes were attempted murders in which the victim survived.

"These individuals have proven to be violent, and these are individuals that if we allow to continue to be on the streets of Harris County, are likely to commit another violent crime."

Katherine Cabaniss is executive director of Crime Stoppers of Houston.

"When we are highlighting and targeting those 452-felons with open warrants for aggravated assault, we want to remind the public that you can go to the Crime Stoppers web site, and you will see the list of wanted felons for aggravated assault, and you can even click on those names to be able to see their pictures."

Michael BarnettThe first felon featured is 27 year old Michael Roger Barnett. He's wanted for almost killing his own brother with a baseball bat. Cabaniss says Crime Stoppers is perfect for crimes committed within a family.

"Quite often, those family members, or friends, or associates know where these wanted felons are located. And if you're afraid that the person who has the open warrant would retaliate against you, you can call Crime Stoppers and be anonymous."
