Former Commerce Secretary Robert Mosbacher, Sr. Dies at MD Anderson

Mosbacher was a top GOP fund raiser and served as Commerce Secretary in the George H.W. Bush administration. He also was a General Campaign Chairman in Senator John McCain's 2008 presidential bid.

Mosbacher family spokesman Jim McGrath says Mosbacher came to Houston in 19-47 and built Mosbacher Energy from humble beginnings into one of the most successful privately held energy exploration companies in the world.

McGrath says there will be two services this week for Secretary Mosbacher.

"There is a local Houston service, a memorial service that will be conducted on Wednesday morning at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church."

And Thursday a private service will be held in Washington DC.

In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting several ways to remember Secretary Mosbacher.

"One is through the Mosbacher Institute which recently was created within the George Bush School at Texas A&M University.ξ Sec. Mosbacher was also instrumental in founding the Odyssey Academy, it's a charter school on Galveston Island.ξ And then the third request the family is making is in lieu of flowers donations can also be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center."

McGrath says Mosbacher's memoir Going to Windward will be released in late spring or early summer this year.
