FutureGen was to be the government's test facility, and the Permian Basin was passed up for an Illinois location.Î¾ Amy Myers Jaffe with Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy says other states are ahead of Texas in near-zero-emissions advances.
"There are other states that seem to be leading to get pilot projects in carbon sequestration.Î¾ Exxon has a big pilot project they're doing in Wyoming.Î¾ So we really seem to be lagging, and honestly I think it's a subject that really should come up in our upcoming elections for governor in this state."
Jaffe says the state of Texas needs to get behind new technology power production.
"We really have seen all these opportunities pass us by, and I mean we're the energy state of the United States, Houston is the so-called energy capital.Î¾ So it really is a failure of our politicians, and we need to think creatively as voters, putting us in the future and putting us in line for these kind of projects. It's where we want to be, as a state."
