Cornyn's a member of the panel that will vet a nominee. and he's been a prime pugilist in some of the parliamentary ju-jitsu that's nearly stymied the senate on other judicial nominees.

Democrats like Connecticut's Chris Dodd contend they aren't looking for a fight.

Tradition dictates the President tap a replacement soon so senators can confirm the nominee in time for the court's new term the first Monday in October.
