"Well, this year we've set another record. A record of 200 exemplary and recognized schools in HISD."
HISD officials made the announcement at the former Sam Houston High school. The school had been placed on the unacceptable list six years in row, so this year they divided it into a math, science and technology center and a 9th grade college prep academy. This is Principal Jane Crump.
"The first press conference that we had when we got the news that Sam Houston would be closed. Dr. Saavedra made the comment: even though Sam Houston is closing, this is not the end of the story for Sam Houston and we have proven that true."
Twelve schools remain on the unacceptable list and changing that will like be a goal of the new incoming superintendent.
