"The sentencing judge described his conduct as a stain on the judicial system. Wherefore, Judge Samuel B. Kent is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors and should be removed from office."
Kent plead guilty to obstructing justice while he was being investigated for sexually harassing two of his female staffers. He is currently serving a thirty three month sentence in a Massachusetts medical prison. Kent has refused to resign until June of next year, which means he is still drawing his federal salary. Texas Congressman Lamar Smith, who is the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, says Kent is continuing to abuse his office.
"Judge Kent has remained on the bench long after he sexually assaulted two women and lied to law enforcement officials. It is now time for justice. Justice for the American people who have been exploited by a judge who violated his oath of office and obstructed justice by lying. And justice for the victims who were subjected to abuse and humiliation."
The House voted to impeach Kent on all four counts of impeachment. Two regarded his sexual misconduct and two regarded his lying while under oath. Kent now has to stand trial in the Senate. No date has been set for the proceedings.
