Henry Kissinger talked about America's relationship with China in an address at a conference at Rice University's Baker Institute.Î¾ Since full diplomatic relations were established 30 years ago, China has become a major trading partner with the U.S.Î¾ Kissinger says the world's economic problems came about because there was no safety net for economic excesses.
"So it is the responsibility of the United States and China to work together to create a new international financial system that prevents a repetition of these events."
Kissinger says these are important times, as changes are made to the world's financial system.
"When we first came to China, we didn't think we would meet at an institute at Rice University to celebrate the rise of China, the partnership between China and the United States — not on strategic matters, but on building a New World Order that brings about, that contributes to peace and progress."Î¾
In January, the U.S. imported $24.7 billion in goods from China, while exporting about $4.1 billion.Î¾
