"Triple A Texas, we had a forecast of a slight 1.2 percent decline in the number of Texans traveling this Thanksgiving holiday weekend, but with the prices perhaps being more attractive to the consumer, much lower than $2.00 a gallon, Texans may decide at the last minute to travel and visit family over the weekend."
Texas is only second to California in the number of residents traveling this holiday. Triple A expects almost 3.2 million Texans to travel this weekend. She says the national travel numbers are down slightly as well.
"41 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles or more for the holiday, but that's a decrease of 1.4 percent from last year's total of 41.6 million. 81-percent are expected to travel by auto, 11-percent by airplane and 8-percent by train."
It's the first national drop in holiday travel since 2002.
