U.H. Libraries Dean Dana Rooks was a colleague of Hoffman.

Friday has been proclaimed as Philip G. Hoffman day, and the University is flying the flag at half-staff in his honor. During his tunure, enrollment grew from 12-thousand in 1961 to almost 30-thousand students by 1977.
