"There'll be two to three lawyers out during business hours of those D.C.Rs where lawyers can be available to answer questions the public has."
Travis Sales is President of the Houston Bar Association. He says there are many questions that arise in addition to those about home owners insurance.
"A lot of questions about legal issues relating toξfences falling, about trees falling, people dealing with their cars, andξpeople dealing with their employment."
Travis says 150 lawyers have gotten training to help answer such questions. The volunteers are also available by phone Monday through Friday from 3-to-5 PM.
"We're averaging currently about 60-70 calls during that two hour period, and we anticipate that the call volume will go up as people get situated and turn to the legal issues that they face."
The number is 713-759-11-33.
A storm like Hurricane Ike can trigger a lot of legal issues. The Houston Bar Association has volunteer lawyers at each of the Disaster Recovery Centers in the area.
