Fort Bend Growth Means New Zip Codes

Dave Lewin, regional spokesperson with the United States Postal Serivce says the new codes are the result of the phenomenal growth in Harris and Fort Bend counties.

"Here in the Houston area, we're simply a growth machine. We average somewhere on the order ofξfifty or sixty-thousand new addresses each and every year. So, these new zip codes are going to help keep us aligned and to keep us as efficient as we've been in the past. We're used to large growth volumes year to year, and with these new zip codes, we're going to be able to continue to work efficiently."

For stationary and other office supplies bearing previous zip codes, Lewin says a twelve month transition period is now in place during which the old and new zip codes will be retained.

"Just this year for the Postal Service, we're going to institute over fifty-new zip codes across the country and that's occurring within 14-different states."

Customers with any questions should ask their local letter carrier or post office.
