Film Review: "Iron Man 2"

After outing himself as Iron Man, billionaire industrialist Tony Stark (Downey Jr.) must now face a personal life that's spinning out of control, a shadowy government agency that's following his every move (headed by Jackson and Johansson) and a mysterious Russian (Rourke) who is trying to kill him, all while fighting for justice in a fancy metal suit. Another strong entry into the Marvel universe.

Much like the previous film, the biggest strength of the movie is Robert Downey Jr. His quickness and deadpan delivery make his portrayal of this egotistical eccentric a highlight of the movie. The rest of the cast are no slouches themselves, led by strong performances from Rockwell, Cheadle and Paltrow. The story got a bit cluttered in the middle, which is a surprising problem for a big-budget action movie to have. However, it's entertaining throughout and none of the plot threads could've gracefully been axed, especially given the hints that are dropped (what team is it that Captain America, Iron Man and Thor are all in?). Marvel is slowly setting the stage for some big things, and I'm curious to see where they go. As for this film, frankly, they had me at "briefcase armor." Another successful comic adaptation.
