Some of the damage done by Tropical Storm Harvey in Meyerland, Houston.

This week’s episode is a special combined Texas and National edition of Party Politics focusing on Tropical Storm Harvey. Co-hosts Jay Aiyer and Brandon Rottinghaus weren’t able to make it to their favorite hangout because of flood waters all over Houston, so engineer extraordinaire Todd Hulslander connected them remotely.

The storm sounds you’ll hear in this episode are actually from the rain that saturated and flooded Houston last Saturday, August 26, 2017. The guys cover lots of topics, including their own personal experience with the storm:

  • Storm of the century, the size and destruction of Tropical Storm Harvey
  • Heroism of first responders and volunteers
  • Economic impact to the city and the nation from the storm
  • Political fallout locally and statewide
  • Does global warming play a part in Houston’s flooding?

Then, they talk about what Congress will do to ensure money gets to the victims of Tropical Storm Harvey. Speaking of which, if you would like to donate to those impacted by the storm, here are a few resources:

Next week, Brandon and Jay hope to be back in the warmth of their favorite spot. Party Politics is produced by Dacia ClayEdel Howlin and Laura Lucas. Our audio engineer is Todd Hulslander.
