Barbara Bush Continues Her Recovery From Pneumonia

Barbara Bush is said to be in good spirits, as she recovers from a bout of pneumonia.

The 88-year-old former First Lady was vacationing with family in Florida when she began feeling ill over the weekend.  She and former President George H.W. Bush returned to Houston on Monday.  That’s when doctors determined Mrs. Bush needed to be hospitalized.

“Her prognosis is good,” said Bush family spokesman Jim McGrath.

“Doctors are pleased with how she’s responded to the treatments. And she sounds great.  When you talk to her on the phone, you wouldn’t know she was under the weather,” McGrath said.

During her time at Methodist Hospital, Mrs. Bush has been visited by several friends and relatives, including her husband, and her son, Neil.

McGrath says it’s too soon to say how much longer Mrs. Bush will remain in the hospital.

“We hope that she’ll get out of there sooner, rather than later. But until the doctors are sure about a discharge, we’re going to keep that under wraps — because we don’t want to get peoples’ hopes up, only to dash them.”

McGrath says Mrs. Bush has been hospitalized in recent years for treatment for an ulcer, and a heart valve replacement.
