The Texas Transportation Commission has signed off on a $50-million-dollar project designed to ease traffic flow at the 610 South Loop and I-45.
Work is scheduled to start early next year on a new connector ramp. It will direct traffic from eastbound 610 to northbound 45.
TxDOT’s Deidrea Samuels says the project will take merging traffic off frontage roads.
“Anytime you add a direct connector, and especially with all the motorists that are now coming into the area and that are expected in the next 20 years, you are going to improve safety because there is no street-level traffic.”
The project should take about two years to complete, and Samuels says there are incentives in the contract to ensure the project meets its completion date.
Plans are also in the works for a connector ramp between southbound I-45 and the 610 South Loop westbound.
