Lisa Trapani Shumate Named First Chief Of Houston Public Media

Lisa Trapani Shumate, an Emmy Award-winning veteran of Houston's television industry, has been named executive director and general manager of Houston Public Media.

Shumate comes to Houston Public Media from Houston CBS affiliate KHOU, where she serves as director of programming and marketing. She also worked for eleven years at Houston ABC affiliate KTRK, rising from anchor, host and producer to director of marketing and special projects.

“We are part of a Tier One university in the University of Houston. So there’s a standard of excellence that we need to rise to in everything that we do.”

Shumate will be the first executive to lead Houston Public Media since the entity was created earlier this year.

“In this building, you have three great brands.  You have Houston PBS, you have Houston NPR, and you have KUHA. And together, they are a very unique beacon of light for this city, and I really look forward to going out and talking to the community about all the new things that we’re doing to serve the community.”

Located on the University of Houston campus, Houston Public Media has an annual budget of $25 million, with 165 staff members and 65,000 individual member/contributors.
