It’s called the Back to School Fest and will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center on August 6th. The event will feature an array of resources for students and families, including dental, health and vision checks, free immunizations, assistance with school supplies and more. This is HISD Superintendent Terry Grier.
“We’re going to have district staff there and they’re going to be on hand to answer any questions about HISD schools programs and enrollment. The Back to School Fest is going to be open to all HISD students. We simply ask that they bring their student ID, proof of enrollment and their last report card to get in the door.”
The event is sponsored by HISD and the City of Houston, along with corporate help from Shell and other local corporations. Houston Mayor Annise Parker says it’s important that everyone is involved.
“We absolutely want to see our HISD kids and this is a pilot program and I look forward to having a very successful launch so that we can then share this effort with some of our other school districts, but we need our kids there and we need our parents there and we need the support of generous Houstonians to make this all come together.”
The new school year starts in HISD on August 22nd.
