Texas Republicans Respond to Obama’s Immigration Reform Speech

While the President was talking immigration in El Paso, Texas lawmakers were on Capitol Hill pushing right back. Mary Kay Mallonee has the story from Washington.

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison says President Obama talks a lot about fixing the broken immigration system.

“But he’s yet to come to Congress with suggestions on immigration reform that could be passed and he knows comprehensive reform is not going to pass right now.”

Senator John Cornyn says the President needs to set a deadline for his own party leadership.

“Well, he needs to be after Reid and the others over here moving legislation.”

Immigration officials point to a record-setting number of deportations as evidence of the administration’s commitment. That enforcement push has upset Latino groups, whose support the President may need in 2012.
