The Embassy Suites in downtown Houston isn’t even two months old yet, but it’s one of the official hotels of the NCAA Final Four. General Manager Ron Gwin says during the big games coming up, they’re in the process of doing a little decorating — not too much, just a few signs.
“The banner will go across the front desk and then throughout the lobby we’ll have different kiosks which will have the agenda for the participants so they’ll know exactly when the shuttle is going to Reliant Center and just stuff like that so just all NCAA information will be in the lobby.”
Many hotels in the area are hoping to see a spike in business this weekend, but Gwin says business at the Embassy Suites can’t get much better.
“We opened up in February and we’ve been running fairly full since then, so we’re kind of used to being full.”
The games are already sold out. But for local Houstonians wanting to experience a piece of the action there’s plenty going on this weekend, including a big sports extravaganza called “Bracket Town.”
“You’ll see the signs at the George R. Brown. It’s called “Bracket Town” and it’s going to be fabulous activities for everyone in the family and then the free concerts will help draw people down here as well.”
As for the Final Four, there are two games at Reliant Stadium on Saturday and then the championship game will be played Monday evening.
