The Houston Intercontinental Chamber of Commerce used to be the North Houston-Greenspoint Chamber, but will unveil its new logo today at the Hilton Hotel North on Greenspoint Drive. The forum is an opportunity for smaller businesses to find ways to work with larger international corporations that are members, as the Chamber’s Reggie Gray explains.
“The majority of the members that we have in this area are a lot of corporations. We have small businesses that are members, too, who then come in and are able to support and be vendors to these large corporations, (to) hear, maybe, some of the challenges of the corporations, to find an area where, possibly, they could assist, or a niche they could fill, and then to interact and meet these business leaders, to possibly do business with them, you know, today or at a later time.”
Gray says small businesses have to realize it’s a global economy, in order to grow like the larger corporations.
“They’ll find some areas that, possibly, there are some niches or vendor opportunities for them or areas where they could grow their business. Because Houston, being such an international city it is—and it currently has the second-most foreign consulates next to New York alone, in the United States—we are very much a global and international city, and are very well known for that around the world. Especially with the recession and the other markets—what is happening to them—Houston will continue to grow and develop in that area.”
The Houston Intercontinental Chamber of Commerce has some 450 members, consisting of national and international corporations such as Halliburton, Baker-Hughes, Noble Energy, CenterPoint Energy, Reliant Energy and AT&T.
