The program was launched last September. It allows parents to buy “units” to prepay undergraduate resident tuition and fees at today’s prices. R.J. DeSilva is with the Texas Comptroller’s office and says you can buy any number of “units.”
“A hundred units equal a year’s tuition and required fees but you can buy as little as one unit if you’d like or 25 units or 50 units.”
Or 400 units for four full years. The enrollment deadline was in February for all but newborns.
“That means parents of children who are under a year of age have until July 31st, which is this Friday, to sign up for contracts and lock in the current rates before the rates increase this coming fall.”
You can enroll online at Texas Tuition Promise Fund.com. DeSilva says setting the prices for the next enrollment period will be done in August.
“We’re getting information on the tuitions and required fees at all the different public universities in Texas, and then once we get all of that we’ll make the calculations and come up with the different unit prices by September 1st.”
So if your child’s under a year old you only have until tomorrow to buy units at the current rates. Again it’s online at Texas Tuition Promise Fund.com.
