Consumers can now compare and shop for electricity, cable TV, internet and other utilities from a web site that shows who serves your address. Ed Mayberry reports.

image of white fence is a bit like Travelocity, but for residential utilities.  You type in your address and prices and plans from companies that serve your area pop up side-by-side for comparison.  You pick the best option and sign up on the site.’s Franc Arbide says the site covers electricity providers, but also other utilities.

“Over 30 categories available on the site, everything from electricity to phone, cable, high-speed Internet, satellite television.  Consumers don’t even realize that there are multiple providers available, especially in the communications field.  There’s now very heavy competition between the cable and telco providers and a lot of money to be saved by making the right decisions.”

Arbide says the Web site finds the services available for your particular address.

“We then allow the consumer to compare the products side-by-side, in whatever category that they’re interested in.  And based on the products that they’re looking for — the services that they’re looking for — make an informed decision as to which one they want to order.  The consumer can then order right there on the site.  They don’t have to link off to a provider site.  And they can order multiple services from the site without having to re-input their information.”
