San Antonio Archdiocese Names Abusive Priests

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Antonio says it believes three

of its priests sexually abused a young boy more than 25 years ago. Jim

Bell reports.

The Reverends Louis White, Larry Hernandez and David Zumaya were associate priests at San Antonio’s historic and most prominent parish, San Fernando Cathedral, between 1978 and 1982.  That’s when the Archdiocese says the alleged abuse happened.

A spokesman says Zumaya and White were also accused of molesting other teenagers and were punished at the time, but the Archdiocese didn’t reveal their histories until yesterday.

The spokesman says the Archdiocese thinks new allegations that the three men all molested one boy are believable. This information was made public Sunday in weekly bulletins at the 15 parishes where the men worked, and the Archdiocese web site.

White was defrocked and removed from the priesthood in 1989.  Zumaya and Hernandez are still priests but are permanantly barred from public ministry.  There’s been no comment from the three men.
