FEMA Deadline

FEMA says people who haven’t applied for federal help in repairing damage

from Hurricane Ike have only a few days left to apply. The deadline is Monday,

as Jim Bell reports.

Harris County homeowners, renters and business owners whose property was damaged by the hurricane have until Monday to register and apply for disaster assistance from FEMA.  The assistance may include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other expenses related to the disaster, but which were not covered by insurance or other sources.

Monday is also the deadline for business owners to apply for low-interest disaster loans from the Small Business Administration.  Officials say people who may not qualify for an SBA loan could still be eligible for other kinds of assistance.

People can register by phone at 1-800-621-FEMA, and on the FEMA website “www.FEMA-dot-gov.”
