In KUHF business news, a non-profit organization that helps lower income Houston families prepare their tax returns for free is looking for volunteers. Jack Williams reports.

Neighborhood Tax Centers needs about 500 volunteers between January and April of next year. They’re hoping to complete 15,000 tax returns for families making $45,000 or less a year. The goal is to help those families recover about $20 million in earned income tax credits and other tax refunds. Elizabeth Colvin is director of Neighborhood Tax Centers.

“This is just a really unique volunteer opportunity. Volunteers will learn how to prepare their own taxes, which is something we all need to know about, and they’ll also have this huge economic impact on families who will really appreciate this service and who really need our help. It’s just a unique opportunity to have a huge impact on individual families and the Houston economy while also learning a valuable skill.”
