“That I will faithfully execute my duties”
Khator: “That I will faithfully execute my duties.”
It was a ceremony that was supposed to take place a month ago. But that was before Hurricane Ike came roaring in. So India native Renu Khator was sworn in Friday afternoon as the University of Houston’s thirteenth president and chancellor of the U of H system.
There were many dignitaries on hand in including Houston Mayor Bill White who spoke about the importance of having a quality leader at U of H.
“We recognize that in this world of global competition that how train the next generation of Americans to compete and win in the world economy is the most critical issue facing our country.”
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee compared the selection of Khator to the selection of our newest president.
“A daughter who migrated to this country. A man who was born of an immigrant and a US citizen. That is the best of America.”
It was a long ceremony but when Khator got her chance, she showed the brilliance and charisma that has already won over so many.
“I am grateful to the current board of regents for selecting me. I know you’re the smartest board.” (applause and laughter) .
“To our community partners and all of you who reached out during these past few months. Please know that I want to say, in true Texan style — thanks y’all.”
