The former Navy pilot and staffer for former Senator Phil Gramm — and Chief of Staff for Senator John Cornyn — took back the Congressional district carved out of four counties by Tom Delay a few years ago. Pete Olson talked with his supporters when it became apparent last night that he’s headed to Washington.
“I am humbled and honored to be elected to represent you in Washington. And I promise you the man that’s standing in front of you here today is going to be the same man, when he goes up to Washington, I’ll be fighting for the same issues — those issues that matter for you back here — that’s what I’m gonna go fight for in Washington.”
Olson noted that the House gained a few Democratic seats, but the story is different for Congressional District 22.
“The victory tonight, our victory tonight — and it was an incredible victory — and we are only one of two Republican take-backs across the nation.”
Democrats were hoping to pad their majority in the House and beef up their thin leadership hold on the Senate.
