The HGAC’s program is called Commute Solutions. It promotes several ways to get cars off the highways. HGAC’s Shelley Whitworth says one way to encourage car pooling is nuride-dot-com.
“Which is kind of like you would book an online airfare except you’re booking a ride to work to share a ride with someone.”
She says you can find a ride everyday, once a week, once a month what ever fits your schedule. Commute Solutions will also help companies set up van pools. That’s where you drive to a central location and catch a van to work. It costs 35-dollars a month per person and is run by METRO. Whitworth employers get benefits from helping their workers find a van pool.
“It helps get their employees to work in a more consistent time frame. The employee is less stressed when they get there and what we’re seeing and hearing is that employees that are participating in its program, the employees are likely to stay longer working with the agencies because of these additional benefits that are offered to them.”
Whitworth says Commute Solutions also helps companies encourage the use of mass transit, set up tele-commuting and flexible work schedules. More information at commute-solutions-houston-dot-org.
