“I have the privilege of officially announcing the creation of the George McMillan
Fleming Center for Healthcare Management.”
Dr. James Willerson, President of the UT Health Science Center made the
announcement of the center that will offer programs with a healthcare
management concentration to current and future leaders here and abroad.
Osama Mikhail, Professor of Management, Policy and Community Health, will
direct the Fleming Center. He says it will provide students with effective leadership
“It’s really almost a three part curriculum. Part of it is understanding national health
policy, part of it is understanding how organizations manage themselves well, and
the other part is of course, how do you connect the community and provide benefit
to the community.”
The center was made possible with a leadership gift from attorney and
philanthropist George Fleming on behalf of his late father.
“I think everything suggests that this is going to be a center of the first class, and it’s
going to train another generation of hospital administrators. It’s not only going to run
the Texas Medical Center, it’s going to run the hospitals throughout this country and
