Because of all the security at airports crime at both Hobby and Bush Intercontinental Airports is relatively low. So, a few weeks ago when there were six cars burglarized at Hobby’s main parking garage in one week-end it quickly caught the attention of authorities.
Houston Police Captain Rick Bownds says HPD and airport security increased patrols. Early Sunday morning it paid off.
“Airport security officer observed the suspects loading some tires and rims into a vehicle, backed-off, called the Houston Police Department; we responded and apprehended the suspects.”
Three men were arrested and lead police to a fourth. Cpt Bownds says they particularly, but not exclusively, liked 22-inch chrome rims.
“They were stealing some wheels and tires but they were also breaking in and staling property out of vehicles, such as radios, tools, anything they could find in there. They had a variety of items.”
He says police recover a lot of stolen property at the scene. Also some cement blocks the suspects allegedly used to support the vehicle once the wheels were stolen. In some cases the owners of the vehicles hit had not yet returned home to discover the crime. Cpt Bownds says the group is also believed to connected to similar crimes at Intercontinental Airport.
