Crime Stoppers Executive Director Katherine Cabaniss says the crackdown focused on 125 fugitives.

“Law enforcement worked hard to go out and locate and work leads on these 125 offenders and in one week they were able to make 50 arrests.”

Those 50 made for a 40 percent arrest rate. Cabaniss says the round-up raised awareness in the community for people to call the 713-222-TIPS number. She points out while they partner with law enforcement agencies, Crime Stoppers is a separate group.

“Any phone call made to Crime Stoppers is actually protected by law. It’s against to law to identify any person who calls Crime Stoppers.”

Cabaniss says the Crime Stoppers number is not to be used in emergency situations. Those calls need to go to 911 for police response. More information about Crime Stoppers can be found at KUHF-dot org.
