Live In Studio: The Reverend Shawn Amos

Los Angeles-based musician injects joy into the blues.

Shawn Amos took on the persona of “The Reverend” to pay reverence to the blues genre, which he feels too often gets stigmatized as a formulaic music of despair. According to Amos, the blues “is all about joy, about finding your way out of the darkness.” While in Houston for a concert at the Continental Club, Amos and his band, which includes guitarist Chris “Doctor” Roberts, bassist Hannah Dexter, and drummer Rodd Bland (the son of blues legend Bobby “Blue” Bland), visited Houston Public Media’s Geary Studio to record the original songs “Put Together” and “Ain’t Gonna Name Names.”
