Apollo Chamber Player’s Scandinavian Hoedown

Sunday evening in Rice Village, Houston’s Apollo Chamber Players continue their folk-influenced concert season with “Scandinavian Spirit,” featuring works by Grieg & Sibelius, along with traditional Norwegian folk melodies played on a Hardanger fiddle.  The ensemble join St.John Flynn in the Geary Studio to perform and give a taste of the spirit of Scandinavia.

As well as string quartets by two of Scandinavia’s most famous composers, the Norwegian Edvard Grieg and the Finnish Jean Sibelius, the Apollo Chamber Players will also present their own transcriptions of traditional Norwegian folks melodies, originally played on the Hardanger fiddle, but now arranged for the fiddle and classical string trio.

The Apollo members, in the Geary Studio, talk with St.John Flynn and offer a movement of the Grieg quartet from the program, along with a tune featuring the Hardanger fiddle…and some stomping!

The Apollo Chamber Players present “Scandinavian Spirit” Sunday, January 12th, 6PM, in the Parish Hall of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Rice Village.
