Opera Cheat Sheet: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Take a quick listen to our short, light-hearted overview of one of Benjamin Britten’s most performed operas, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which is this week’s Metropolitan Opera broadcast airing Saturday at noon on Classical 91.7.

In this week’s Opera Cheat Sheet, Classical 91.7’s program director, St.John Flynn, and opera expert, Eric Skelly, give a quick overview of Benjamin Britten’s magical A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  Based heavily on the Shakespeare play, Britten’s opera brings to life the Fairies, the Mortals and the Rustics in a musical treatment considered by many to be the most successful operatic adaptation of one of the Bard’s plays.

You can hear the Met’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream Saturday at noon on Classical 91.7 and online at classical917.org.
