Luc Tuymans: “Nice”

Influential Belgian painter Luc Tuymans talks about "Nice," his current exhibition at the Menil Collection, where he juxtaposed his own paintings with artworks he personally chose from the Menil's vast holdings. The exhibition is on view through January 5.

One of the most influential painters working today, Luc Tuymans has also been called one of the greatest painters of his generation. Born in Belgium in 1958, he’s known largely for his ghostly portraits taken from sources like medical journals and film stills. Never taking more than 24 hours to complete a work, Tuymans tackles broad themes like politics, religion and world events by exploring the faces of the personae directly involved–the famous, the not-so-famous and the infamous. He talked with Houston Public Media’s Troy Schulze.
