The 2010 Opera Vista Festival presents a Chamber-Music Concert, featuring small-ensemble works for voices and instruments by the Wisconsin-born composer, Daron Hagen, who is serving as one of the jurists for this year’s Opera Vista Competition. The recital of Mister Hagen’s music takes place this evening at 7:30PM at the Czech Center.
Tomorrow evening at 7:30PM, also at the Czech Center, Opera Vista musicians perform scenes from the chamber operas that remain in contention for top honors in the finals round of the third annual Opera Vista Competition.
The Festival concludes with a complete performance of last year’s Competition winner, Danish composer Line Tjørnhøy’s Anorexia Sacra

Tonight at 8:30PM at the Poison Girl Bar on Westheimer, the Poison Pen Reading Series presents Charlotte-born, Philadelphia-based poet, Taije Silverman, as she reads excerpts from her 2009 collection, Houses Are Fields. She shares the stage with two other creative artists whose medium is the written word. Admission is free. Silverman talks about her latest work, and reads an example of it, for KUHF’s St. John Flynn. Mercury Baroque, under the direction of its founder and Artistic Director, Antoine Plante, performs nine of the twelve concertos from Antonio Vivaldi’s 1711 collection, L’estro Armonico, – The Genius of Harmony … this Saturday night at 8:00PMin the Cullen Theater of downtown Houston’s Wortham Center.
