Society for the Performing Arts brings Mr. Sondheim to Houston on Saturday evening for an on-stage conversation at Jones Hall with New York Times critic, Frank Rich. Plus, we welcome singers from the Moores Opera Center production of Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims to the Geary Perormance Studio…

Stephen Sondheim chats with KUHF’s Bob Stevenson about his career and his upcomnig conversation with Frank Rich from the New York Times. His unscripted interview will happen on the stage of Jones Hall thsi Sunday afternoon and is presented by Society for the Performing Arts. Listen Download

The weekend, the University of Houston’s Moores Opera Center presents Il Viaggio a Reims — The Journey to Rheims, Rossini’s comic opera, sung in Italian with English surtitles. Performances are this Friday, Saturday and next Monday evening at 7:30 plus, there’s a matinee on Sunday afternoon at 2:00PM at the Moores Opera House. Producer-Director Buck Ross, guest conductor Ted Taylor, soprano Julia Cramer and baritone Gabriel Preisser all join KUHF’s Chris Johnson in the Geary Performance Studio for a preview session.  Listen Download

Bohnchang Koo talks about the artistic evolution of his work and that of other contemporary Korean photographers within the context of the transformation of Korean society at this month’s Artful Thursday event. It’s tomorrow evening at 6:30PM in the Brown Auditorium Theater of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Admission is free and KUHF’s Eric Ladau is your host for the evening. This “Artful Thursday” program is presented in conjunction with the traveling exhibition, Chaotic Harmony: Contemporary Korean Photography, which includes some of Bohnchang Koo’s images and which is on view through New Year’s weekend.
