Christopher Wheeldon served as the New York City Ballet’s first Resident Choreographer, from the Summer of 1991 until early last year. In 2002, for that company’s observance of the hundredth anniversary of the birth of composer Richard Rodgers, Mr. Wheeldon created the short contemporary ballet, Carousel (A Dance). He is re-mounting that work for the Houston Ballet 2009 Spring Repertory Program, Of An Era. Pianist Evelyn Chen … Houston Symphony musicians David Peck, clarinet … Ferenc Illenyi, violin … and Brinton Averil Smith, cello … along with three more of their colleagues from the Symphony and the local community of professional musicians, perform small-ensemble works by Johannes Brahms and Richard Strauss … in the second of the three recitals that make up the new Restoration Chamber Music Series in Galveston. This week’s concert, Garten Verein: Legacy of Friendship, takes place tomorrow evening at 7:00PM in the 130-year-old Garten Verein dancing pavilion. This series is presented in collaboration with the Galveston Historical Foundation, and proceeds from ticket sales help underwrite the Society’s recovery projects. Listen. Donwload.

Blair Knowles plays Ismene, sister of Antigone, a woman of ancient Thebes who is condemned to death by King Kreon. The King’s son, Haimon, is portrayed by Matthew Keenan … in the Classical Theatre Company production of Antigone, the Greek tragedy by Sophocles, staged by the company’s Artistic Director, John Johnston. This is the final week of performances. Listen.
