We continue our ramp-up to Houston’s twelfth annual Museum District Day set for this coming Saturday — by visiting another of the art museums and galleries that are participating in the event: the Houston Center for Photography. There we’ll look at The Homeland Project, an exhibition of work by one of the Center’s 2006 Fellowship Recipients, Divya Murthy. . .
We’ll also preview the first of this year’s Mukuru: Arts for AIDS chamber-music recitals. Soprano Karol Bennett and baritone Brian Shircliffe, accompanied at the piano by artistic director, Rodney Waters, will perform live for us — some of the songs by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov that they’ll be doing on their program, Rothko in Russia: Tragedy, Ecstasy, Destiny … Friday night at the Rothko Chapel. . . .
And choreographers Deborah Quanaim, co-founder of Houston Community College’s World Dance Institute, and Mauricio Campos, Artistic Director of the Brazilian Arts Foundation, will tell us about this year’s Tapestry of World Dance program, Following the Rhythm: Dance of the African Diaspora, that Dance Source Houston will present Saturday evening at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park
Join us each weekday afternoon at 3:00 for an up-close look at the Houston area arts scene on The Front Row.
