Today, we met up with Tyron McFarlan. He’s the new ringmaster of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus and, as you’ll hear, is quite the performer. . .
A former military brat and Army National Guard officer who now introduces the performers of the Greatest Show on Earth, McFarlan is a graduate of the University of South Carolina’s criminal justice program, a former Captain in the Army National Guard, and a veteran of the musical-theater stage. Tyron McFarlan is the 34th ringmaster of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. He joined KUHF’s Alison Young in the KUHF Perofrmance Studio. Audio here.
Last year, choreographer-dancer Teresa Chapman moved to the Bayou City to become the newest faculty member of the University of Houston’s School of Theater and Dance. It was quite a change for this artist whose previous bases of operation have included Long Beach, Santa Barbara and New York City. Her newest evening-length contemporary dance piece, Lost and Found, explores themes of displacement, personal loss, and the quest for new beginnings. Ms. Chapman talked about her new work with TFR Assistant Producer Alison Young. Audio here.
KUHF’s Summer Arts and Performance Tour of Northeastern Europe has concluded with a final opera performance and a flurry of chamber music recitals at two different music festivals in Finland. TFR Producer Bob Stevenson spoke by phone with Houston Public Radio’s resident travel guide, Dean Dalton. Audio here.
