The Harris County Emergency Managment officials are preparing for what Hurricane Rita might bring to the Houston area. Officials right now are concentrating on people who need special assistance to evacuate.

Emergency Management officials say they always plan one level above what’s expected.

Guiterrez says those needing assistance to evacuate should call 713-881-3100. Officials say they are contacting nursing homes and assisted living facilities to check on evacuation plans. Beyond that officials are encouraging everyone to stalk up on supplies and consider evacuating if possible.

Guiterrez says they are coordinating with Galveston and Brazoria Counties as well as area cities to monitor what path Hurricane Rita will take.
