The Greater Houston Partnership is kicking off a two-week trade mission to China today.

Shanghai Stock ExchangeThe trade mission aims to draw Chinese direct investment to major Houston industries. The energy sector will be high on the list, as will the Port of Houston and the Texas Medical Center. Attorney Harry Gee, Jr., is with the Greater Houston Partnership’s world trade committee.

“The investment opportunities from China have significantly increased by virtue of China’s changing of its economic restrictions upon the movement of monies and resources out of China. The largest group of foreign investors coming and utilizing the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program, initiated by the immigration service, has been Chinese nationals.”

Members of the partnership will meet with corporate leaders and dignitaries from Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen and several other cities. The mission will also feature a major trade show for investors in Xiamen that the partnership is sponsoring.
